NÜRNBERGER Versicherung is a German insurance company based in Nuremberg. It operates in the areas of life insurance, private health insurance, property insurance, accident insurance and car insurance as well as in the financial services sector, primarily in Germany and Austria. The listed parent company of the Group is NÜRNBERGER Beteiligungs-Aktiengesellschaft.
Challenge
It was foreseeable that Nürnberger Versicherung’s data centres would soon no longer meet the state of the art and the security criteria customary in the industry. The strategic considerations, which also included the make-or-buy decision, resulted in the plan to replace both data centres, but to build only one new one themselves. The data centre for mirroring was to be rented. The insurance supervisory requirements for IT meant that not just any colocation data centre would do.
Solution
Of the only four possible providers on the shortlist for the tender process, noris network stood out due to the scope of its certifications and its experience with customers in the banking and insurance sectors. What attracted particular attention was that a new construction phase was planned at the main site in the south of Nuremberg, which aimed to achieve Trusted Site Infrastructure Level 4, which has only been achieved a dozen times worldwide and has not yet been realized for colocation data centres in Germany. Nürnberger Versicherung wanted to capitalize on this.
Project success
Nürnberger Versicherung has moved into two cages in the new section of the Nuremberg South high-security data center operated by IT service provider noris network AG. It operates virtualized servers, IBM computers, storage systems and a tape library for archiving in this TSI Level 4 data center. Nürnberger Versicherung is very satisfied with the progress of the project and the use of the secure and energy-efficient infrastructure.
