Interview with Tobias Ritter
What does an Account Manager do in Inside Sales?
My main tasks include the usual sales activities, such as processing customer enquiries, preparing quotations/order confirmations and cancellations. But of course I’m also available to the customer at any time to answer any other questions they may have and, if necessary, coordinate between the technical department and the customer.
How did you get this job?
I originally worked in a completely different industry, namely as a painter and varnisher. However, after a lot of back and forth, I decided to start a new apprenticeship in a commercial profession, which I finally completed at noris network AG.
I couldn’t really imagine moving from the building site to an IT company, but after I got to know noris and my colleagues, I quickly realised that I didn’t want to leave.
What skills are essential for this?
In any case, you can’t be shy of people. Because in my day-to-day work, I am constantly liaising with a wide variety of teams and customers. That’s why it’s just as important to always act in a customer-centred way and to put yourself in the other person’s shoes in order to understand their point of view.
Do you have any current projects and if so, which ones?
As I work in sales, I always have several “projects” running in parallel. This is because I always accompany a process from the customer’s enquiry to the completion of the order and keep an eye on the individual steps so that the customer is completely satisfied.
What matters most to you when implementing projects?
The most important thing for me is that the customer is satisfied at the end of the day and sees noris as a reliable partner.
What makes your job so exciting for you and what motivates you?
As no two enquiries are the same, I have to adapt to the respective customer each time and come up with the right concept. For me, it’s this variety that motivates me and makes my work so exciting.
What do you value about your daily work?
I simply love the fact that you come into contact with a wide variety of people and perspectives. This means that no two days are the same, and you are constantly learning.
What was your greatest success?
For me personally, it was completing the AdA exam and being able to fulfil my role as an instructor at noris.
What further development opportunities are on offer?
noris really does a great job here. Numerous technical and commercial training courses are offered to all employees, but the personal development and interests of individuals are also encouraged.
This enabled me to obtain the AdA certificate mentioned above and I now also work as a trainer. Thanks to regular feedback meetings, every employee can also express their wishes or interests and also take part in training courses/further training outside the standard programme.
